A Time to Change for People in South & East Cork

A Time to Change for People in South & East Cork

It was another hectic week for South & East Cork Area Development (SECAD) as we hosted the latest set of ‘Opportunities Mornings’ with Cobh taking place on 17th September, Ballincollig on 18th September, and Youghal on 19th September. These mark the fourth of its kind for Youghal.  The showcase events were all successful in terms of the numbers it attracted, as well as the invaluable contributions of the most recent crop of ‘Time to Change’ graduates.

The mornings all provided an insight into SECAD’s flagship pathway programme, ‘Time to Change’ with recent participants presenting their own learning from the experience.  Guest speaker for Youghal, Dr Michael Ryan from the Centre for Education and Developing Human Potential at LIT-Tipperary offered various nuggets of wisdom and inspirational stories of those who battle against the odds, demonstrating huge resilience in the face of adversity.

Gillian O’Sullivan, former Olympic Athlete spoke about the challenges she faced keeping herself motivated, especially during periods when she was recovering from an injury.  She spoke about goal setting & the importance of self-belief and also about gathering a group of people around you who can encourage you during difficult times and also celebrate your successes.

Catherine-Ann and Niall Heenan, trainers with the Time to Change programme, demystified the programme for those in the audience considering the training option. The mornings concluded with an amicable exchange between audience and support services which had set up information stands from early morning. The morning proved a successful recruitment platform for the upcoming schedules commencing on the week of 1st October.
