Ballymore Community Centre

Ballymore Community Centre

an image of the ballymore community hallA new Primary School was opened in Walterstown in 2002. Ballymore Community Centre negotiated a fi fty year lease for the use of the old two room school with the intention of converting it into a community centre. Since that time they added an extension as well as making several upgrades to the old building and surrounds.

With support of SECAD the following improvements were carried out:
• Instalment of internal fire doors and significant upgrades to the fire alarm system
• Replacement of four old windows in the N.E. room of the old building
• Instalation of a new pedestrian entrance at the East side of the property to give safer access from the car park
• Resurfacing with tarmacadam at the front of the centre
• Renewal of all gutters and down piping

There is now an excellent community centre which is widely used and appreciated by the community in this part of Great Island and is used by the following groups:
• Pre-school activities with forty children and a staff of four
• Ballymore sports
• Walterstown Group Water Scheme
• Cobh Twinning Committee
• Fund Raising Events e.g. Boston Tea Party for Special Olympics
• Senior Citizens
• Painters groups
• Rented out for birthday parties, and Special events etc
