SECAD COMMUNITY PARTNERS
Working with community partners
In order to maximise resource efficiency and impact, SECAD works with key community partners across the area for example, Family Resource Centres or similar structures.
Key community partners include:
Ballincollig Family Resource Centre
Midleton Community Forum - Family Resource Centre
Cobh Family Resource Centre
Cumann na Daoine Community Resource Centre, Youghal
Carrigaline Family Support Initiative
Carrigtwohill Family Resource Centre
These community partners typically have a remit to provide social inclusion services for their town and the surrounding area and the means by which the work is targeted is dependent on the specific needs identified in each of the areas coupled with the stage of development of the community group. This community development approach means that SECAD achieves maximum reach into the communities while at the same time strengthening the community structures themselves through capacity building and experience in co-delivery of some elements.
All community facilities used for the delivery of the SECAD interventions are themselves hubs of activity which host a wide spectrum of employment and community supports and services. The placing of SECAD programmes in this setting creates an automatic access point to other relevant services, underpinning the connectivity across the education, employment, and self-employment services spectrum.
SECAD sees the roles of the FRCs and similar structures and that of SECAD are being complementary to each other, with evidence of ongoing demand for specific family and child support services, including counselling services; parent and childcare support; addiction services; supports and signposting around homelessness, mental health as well as serious debt issues. SECAD maintains in order to make any attempts to tackle social exclusion and address poverty at several levels, the services of the FRCs must be on the ground so that supports offered by the Local Development Company can gain sufficient traction. The supports and services offered by SECAD must work in partnership with those on offer by the FRC at the local level. Equally, the work undertaken by the FRC locally can be complemented and maximised by LDC interventions including targeted employment supports, design and delivery of tailored pathway programmes, and access to self- employment options.
Ultimately, the end focus must always be on the beneficiary and those most in need of supports.
