YOUTH PROJECTS CURRENTLY SUPPORTED BY SECAD
Film Hubs
First Cut Youth Film Initiative The First Cut Film Project continues to grow from strength to strength. 170 young people from throughout the SECAD area of operation took part in the workshops, the Summer School and the Festival in 2010. The First Cut Youth Film Project introduces young people to the craft of fi lmmaking and enables them to express their creativity through the medium of fi lm. It also aims to build the confi dence and skills of the participants and gives them the opportunity to express their thoughts, opinions and ideas.
East Cork Youth Network
SECAD continues to be a member of the East Cork Youth Network which is a grouping which provides space for groups involved in Youth Work in the East Cork area to develop ideas and cross community actions. Initiatives have included Youth Leadership training for young people who may be participating in youth councils in their own community or in the East Cork area and organising events such as sporting events with groups travelling to one central area, this provides a means of working to promote positive mental health in young people in the area.
Midleton Youth (MY Place) Project
SECAD is working with other local partners in Midleton to identify a space in the town for young people to meet, socialise and develop their ideas. In recent years a steering group has been established which is currently seeking to develop a suitable facility and management structure – this group is comprised of community members, local youth groups, schools, HSE, Midleton Town Council, Garda Siochana and SECAD.
