“Developing Areas” Community Training Programme SECAD carried out a comprehensive training programme in Ballincollig, Carrigaline and Midleton. These are areas which are defi ned by increased/increasing populations and with associated needs for infrastructure and services’ development and which, if supported appropriately can grow and flourish and contribute to social and economic development. The training was aimed at members of boards and committees of community groups.

The objectives of the training were:

  1. To enhance or broaden participants’ understanding of the value and
importance of working through community development principles and
    processes to achieve their aims
  2.  To provide participants with information and guidance on community
planning tools and, through practical exercises, to enhance their understanding
of these as a basis for future community planning
  3.  To provide information on, and raise awareness of, the Developing
Areas’ Initiative and its role in future physical and social infrastructural
    development in the selected area
