Tracton is named from the 13th century Cistercian Monastery, which was located in the valley of the Minane River, now all traces are gone. Some notable houses are in the area, mostly built as hunting lodges for the Anglo- Norman families who once owned vast tracts of land from Youghal to the Kerry county bounds Of those houses, Walton Court is still lived in .Tracton has two 18th century historic churches, the Church of Ireland in Nohoval village and the Sacred Heart Church in Minane Bridge. The third church, St Patrick’s in Nohoval was a church built during the famine years and was used as a hospital during the worst famine days. We have a long coastline, with lots of bays, some sandy. The Community Council is just starting on a Coast watch initiative with an Taisce. The Council has recently restored a Georgian schoolhouse Knocknamanagh Old School, which is now in full use by the community.
