Training initiatives for 2010

Community Group Training Programme (skills based workshops)

SECAD will be running a Community Training programme for community and voluntary groups in South and East Cork in early 2010.  Topics will include Governance for your Community Group; Effective Communication within a Community Group; Promotion of your Community Group; Committee Skills Training and the Roles of Officers; Carrying out a needs analysis and evaluation of a community group and how to conduct a training needs analysis; Practical aspects of fundraising and funding proposal writing as a means to access public funds.  These workshops will be run in community venues in the South and East Cork area and will be of benefit to those currently participating or planning to participate in community groups who wish to ensure that their group is run effectively.  For further information, please contact Nuala at SECAD on 021 4613432 or ..

  

Community Development Training

SECAD will be running a seven week Community Development Training course, based in Carrigtwohill beginning in January 2010.  Places are limited, so if a member of your community group is interested in attending, please contact Nuala at SECAD on 021 4613432 or . .

 

Village and Area Enhancement Training

SECAD Village and Area Enhancement Training Programme will begin on 21st January 2010 with a one day seminar, followed by four workshops (held at local community venues) and support for the development of an area enhancement plan for each participating group.  Groups are invited to register up to three interested members for this training.  For further information, please contact Frances or Nuala at SECAD on 021 4613432 or . or .

 

EMPLOYMENT / BUSINESS INITIATIVES

Start Your Own Business Training

SECAD will be running a part-time ‘Start Your Own Business’ course starting the first week of January. The course is aimed at people who have a business idea but are not sure how to take the next step. The course runs two evenings per week for five weeks and is based at SECAD offices in Midleton. Topics covered will include: how to set up a business, how to write a business plan, basic marketing, basic book-keeping, etc. Participants can also avail of a number of individual mentoring sessions with the trainer in order to discuss their specific idea in more detail. The course is FETAC certified based on the completion of a good business plan. There is no charge for this course. Towards Occupation

In January, SECAD will commence the modular Training aspect of the Towards Occupation Programme.  The training will commence on 19th January with an Induction Morning, and continue until Easter on Tuesday & Thursday Mornings each week at the SECAD Offices in Midleton.  The objective of the programme is to provide training and support to the Long Term Unemployed who may be distant from the Labour Market and Retraining as a result of feeling isolated, lacking confidence, depression or any other mental health issue.  The Training will commence with Life Skills and Burnished Pottery, to enhance the participants’, communication, social interaction and personal development skills.  Ongoing training will continue with scheduled modules such as Basic IT and additional modules decided upon by the group.  The programme is free to interested participants and is flexible to their ability to participate.  A coffee Morning will be held at SECAD Office on Tuesday 12th January 10.30am- 12.30am, to provide further information and registration for this programme.
