Local Development Social Inclusion Programme
The Local Development Social Inclusion Programme is a series of measures that are designed to counter disadvantage and to promote equality and social and economic inclusion. The LDSIP is managed by Pobal on behalf of the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs. It is funded through the National Development Plan.
The LDSIP is implemented at local level by area-based partnerships, community partnerships and employment pacts. ECAD has managed and delivered the LDSIP (and Local Development Programme from 1996 to 2000) as a community partnership for the East Cork area. Following the government decision to achieve full national social inclusion coverage, SECAD will manage the LDSIP for the South and East Cork area from 2009.
The LDSIP is currently grouped into three areas of activity: Services for the unemployed, Community development and Community-based youth initiatives and funding is awarded to applicants that detail specific actions.
Target groups include; long-term unemployed, disadvantaged women, disadvantaged young people, travellers, older people, disabled people, homeless people, ex-prisoners and ex-offenders, low-income farm households, asylum seekers and refugees, substance misusers, lone parents, underemployed / seasonal workers, young people at risk, disadvantaged communities living in isolated rural areas or deprived urban areas.
