About SECAD
South and East Cork Area Development Ltd. is an integrated development company that has successfully delivered rural development and social inclusion programmes and initiatives in the East Cork area since 1995 on behalf of the European Union and the Irish Government through the National Development Plan.
During 2008, following a national review of boundaries, SECAD expanded it’s geographic area to take in the Carrigaline Electoral area and four DED’s north of Midleton. This is in addition to the area previously covered ie. the Midleton Electoral area and part of Blarney Electoral area.
SECAD now covers a population of over 148,000. The area includes Cork Harbour and rural and peri urban areas bordering Cork City and is made up of towns and large centres of population e.g. Cobh, Midleton, Youghal, Carrigaline, Ballincollig, expanding villages e.g. Glanmire, Carrigtwohill, Crosshaven and smaller villages and rural settlements throughout the area e.g. Ballycotton, Dungourney, Roberts Cove etc.
SECAD delivers a number of major programmes along with a range of other smaller schemes and initiatives eg. the Rural Development Programme 2007-2013, the Local Development Social Inclusion Programme (LDSIP), Rural Transport Programme (RTP) and Rural Social Scheme (RSS).
