DO YOU WANT TO SAVE RURAL IRELAND?

Local Services Under Threat

South & East Cork Area Development (SECAD) are looking for YOUR support and help.

We all need to ensure that the valuble resource currently available to you through Local Development Companies like SECAD, IS NOT TAKEN AWAY FROM YOU!

SECAD is one of the 50 Local Development Companies that provide supports to every community, urban and rural in Ireland. SECAD itself locally supports many areas of the community from Youghal to Ballincollig, from Ballycotton to Lisgoold from Midleton to Cobh and from Crosshaven to Glanmire, in fact covering every square inch of ground in the South and East Cork Area.

Local Development is all about investing public funds through a ‘bottom-up’ approach, where local community leaders collectively make decisions to invest in job creation and social investments based on their local knowledge and in a manner that is more flexible, more person-community focused and more fluid than State driven approaches. It is not to replace National or Regional (County) Development.  Local Development is there to complement and address major issues in a different way.

YET today our Government are considering taking the management and control of Core EU (LEADER) Funds away from Local Development Companies such as SECAD.  In a plan called ‘Better Alignment between Local Government and Local Development’ Officials in the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government are suggesting that the EU Local (LEADER) Development Funds will be better managed by the County/City Manager through a new quango that they will oversee called the ‘Socio-Economic Committee’ of the Local Authority.
