Tús Careers and Education Village for Youghal
YOUGHAL Tús participants recently attended a very successful ‘Tús careers and Education Village’ at Club Áras in Magners Hill in Youghal at the home of Youghal GAA Club.
The participants who attended were part of a group of people who are coming towards the end of their twelve month participation period and with that in mind South and East Cork Development (SECAD) have given the participants that are leaving an opportunity to get advice and support in many areas including, CV advice, Interviews and presentation skills, plus links to the Department of Social Protection for advice on allowances and Education and various other opportunities under the guidance of Avril Quinn a professional CV service and career planning professional.
The Tús programme began in Youghal last August and with such a wide and diverse amount of local community groups from Radio Stations to Soccer Clubs involved in providing the Tús participants with work placements, the whole experience has been a very positive one and will continue in all the East and South Cork areas.
Tús co-ordinator at SECAD Frances Burke said “The feedback from our first Tus participants who completed the course has been fantastic. Our aim is to equip all the participants with the necessary skills and information to return to the workplace or to follow a different career path. I would like to take the opportunity to thank the participants on behalf of SECAD for their contribution to the Tús Programme in the Youghal area over the past 12 months and to wish them every success. I would also like to acknowledge the professionalism of Avril Quinn who delivered the training course for SECAD”.
The feedback from the Tús Participants has been really positive too with testimonials like “Thanks SECAD I have improved my computer skills and my communication skills” “It definitely has helped me to get out there and find a job” “The training was very good on the course” “The scheme was of benefit to me” and “Tús will help me to continue improving”.

Carrigaline gets the very best of attention from Tús
Tús workers Stuart Moon and John Fitzgerald have been putting in some fantastic work in and around the green areas and the parks and river areas of Carrigaline under the guidance of the ‘Carrigaline Tidy Towns Committee’.
Recently the parks area in particular in Carrigaline have been receiving some great publicity after the inclusion of gym style pubic exercise units in the park that were part funded by SECAD.
The area surrounding the new equipment, along with the river and children’s playground area need significant maintenance and that is where SECAD’s Tús workers Stuart and John come in. John said “I must say that I would have been a litterer myself before I came into the Tús placement, but now I can say after all the rubbish and litter that we have picked up in and around Carrigaline, I will never litter again, it amazes me the amount of litter people carelessly drop”.
Stuart Moon said “There are fantastic areas in Carrigaline which have incredible potential. The park area and the river areas are bursting with character and people should realise that if everyone tries a little harder, these areas will be beautiful places for future generations to enjoy”.
