SECAD Noticeboard


The Tús community work place initiatives are spreading far and wide into communities all over South and East Cork.

Tús covers all areas in South and East Cork including Midleton, Ballincollig, Cobh, Youghal, Carrigaline, Crosshaven, Douglas and Togher and very much part of the rural Community in areas like Ballintotis, Knockraha, Tracton, Ballymacoda and Knockadoon.

The opportunity for groups to get involved in Tús is quite simple. If you are a registered charity, members owned club or society or a non-profit organisation and want to apply for the Tús Initiative as a group you need to fill in a SECAD Tús expression of community interest form (below).

Knockraha gets the Tús treatment


The beautiful village and surroundings of Knockraha village have been the source of wonder for many years and now with the inclusion of the SECAD Tús Initiative, the areas beautiful landmarks like the St Cuains Well, Kilquane Cemetery and various other beauty spot locations are under constant care from SECAD Tús Participant Humphrey Murphy.

Humphrey  is carrying out village enhancement work for the Knockraha Community Association, where he helps the group with the overall upkeep of the Village and now Humphrey is also helping them to prepare for the forthcoming “Tidy Towns” competition.

Amongst Humphreys many tasks is the  maintenance of the well at “St Cuains” and as part of his SECAD Tús placement Humphrey is proving a versatile and  valuable contribution to his community in Knockraha.



Care and Repair Reminder!

Just a reminder that South and East Cork Area Development has  started the ‘South and East Cork Care and Repair Programme’ in association with Age Action Ireland and  Tús.The first of these Care and Repair projects has been launched  in Midleton where repair services and other small jobs will be provided for  over 65’s.. If you have a small repair job you need done, the cost to you will only include the materials and a small donation.


There is a dedicated land line phone number for the Midleton Care and Repair project 021-462 1190 and the office at SECAD will answer your queries and listen to your requests.

Literacy and Basic Education for Adults

The Vocational Education Committee (VEC) run a service called Adult Basic Education. This service offers

  • One      to One tuition in basic reading and writing
  • FETAC      (up to level 3) accredited courses in communications, math’s and basic      computers
  • Intensive      adult basic education
  • Driver      Theory test
  • Return      to education courses for Fás Community Employment participants
  • Family      learning courses
  • Workplace      learning
  • Support      for adults with dyslexia
  • English      as a second language
