Community Food Initiative

SECAD Partnership management of ‘All Ireland Community Food Initiative’ for safefood

Safefood is an all-island organisation set up to promote awareness and knowledge of food safety and nutrition issues on the island of Ireland. Since 2016, SECAD Partnership has administered safefood’s Community Food Initiative (CFI) to positively influence the eating habits of low income families and to identify and promote best practice in communities.

What we do
Specifically, safefood and SECAD Partnership and work with 13 different local/community based groups across the Island of Ireland – 4 CFI Leaders in Northern Ireland and 9 CFI Leaders in the Republic of Ireland. Each of these groups have a ‘social inclusion’ focus and experience working in communities. SECAD empowers CFI Leaders in the community to act as champions for the CFI in their area, to develop strategic links with key agencies and to deliver a combination of large scale workshops and smaller initiatives with target groups.

Impact
During 2016, 1,537 families attended 26 healthy eating events where 260 organisations were present to provide advice and guidance to the attendees. Additionally, 604 families benefited through their involvement in smaller projects.
