Trails of nature, echoes of history
Supported through the ESB’s Community Benefit Fund
Ballyfad Wood, near Coolgreany, Co. Wexford, is a 200-acre woodland rich in biodiversity and history. With ancient oaks, diverse habitats, and four tranquil walking trails, it offers a peaceful escape into nature.
Thanks to funding from the ESB’s Raheenleagh Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund, administered through SECAD Partnership, the trails have been upgraded with new signage, improved access, and the charming addition of a fairy walk, delighting families and nature lovers alike.

Once a place of refuge during the 1798 rebellion, Ballyfad Wood now stands as a living link between past and present. This project showcases what’s possible when communities come together to protect and celebrate their natural and cultural heritage.
SECAD Partnership funds and advises local environmental initiatives, supporting over 60 biodiversity projects annually to promote sustainable community development. This is the story of one such project.
