My Place – Mini Theatre Project

SICAP Social Enterprise Grants 2017

My Place – Mini Theatre Project, Mill Road, Midleton, Co Cork

SECAD Partnership has a long standing stake in the development of My Place CLG, a safe and secure space for hosting and managing youth and community services in Midleton, Co. Cork.

As Midleton currently does not have a performance venue or theatre, My Place identified that its main hall would lend itself for adaption as a theatre/performance venue with a few small modifications.  The hall could comfortably accommodate 150 people seated which would be an ideal size to host events and in turn, help generate interest in the performance arts, theatre guilds, choirs, tour shows. It would also boost the community’s opportunity to meet, connect and socialise at night.

Critically, SECAD part funded the My Place – Mini Theatre Project with €2500 to invest in portable curtains, a stage backdrop, global trussing – a portable pulley block and tackle system for hanging light sets and curtains and a lighting rig, including moving head spotlights.

This project will increase the diversity of educational and social activities, embracing both cultural and community events that require a theatre setting within a non -alcohol community based environment.
