Held to coincide with World Refugee Day, the event marked successful completion of job skills training programmes designed to enhance employment opportunities in key sectors such as healthcare, construction, security, and hospitality. The event brought together participants from diverse backgrounds and representing more than 15 nationalities, all of whom have taken significant steps toward building new lives in Ireland through upskilling and employment readiness. Skills training across sectors

SECAD Partnership supports jobseekers who wish to improve their skills and employability through training across construction, food and health sectors. In addition, programmes also aim to develop participants’ skills to research and apply for jobs, as well as to develop social and communication skills necessary for the workplace.

Construction

SECAD Partnership delivers training for people seeking employment in the construction sector.

  • Safe Pass – construction workers are bound by law to hold a valid Safe Pass card and it also proves useful for people who are seeking work as general operatives in the manufacturing sector
  • Manual handling

Courses are delivered online and in person and are subject to eligibility and will run at varying times and locations throughout the year.

Food Safety

The food and hospitality sectors are important sources of employment in the South Cork area. Increasingly, as an entry into employment, employers are keen to hire candidates who have undertaken some form of basic food training. SECAD Partnership offers clients the opportunity to gain a Primary Certificate in Food Safety which is valid for 5 years. The course covers a broad range of topics including:

  • Learn how to handle and store food safely
  • Gain an understanding of the basic rules of HACCP and allergen awareness

Courses are delivered online and in person and are subject to eligibility and will run at varying times and locations throughout the year.

Healthcare – Qualification (Level 5)

SECAD is a partner in a Healthcare Opportunities training project with Ballyhoura Development. The programme provides an opportunity to gain a Healthcare Assistant Level 5 qualification. The programme is specifically aimed at women who have been out of the workforce and who are not in receipt of a Jobseekers Allowance. If you are receiving a payment, please talk to us about your eligibility.

The programme appeals to women who are interested in a career that allows them to work as a care assistant in a care home, community setting or a hospital. The training is free, flexible and an excellent way to upskill and gain a new career option.

The programme is co-funded by the Irish Government through the Department of Justice and Equality and the European Social Fund through the Programme for Employability, Inclusion and Learning (PEIL). Funding is being provided under the Employability strand of PEIL, to promote gender equality and to create new employment opportunities for women.
