Community Connections Project
The Community Connections Project (CCP) supports stronger, more connected and inclusive communities by creating opportunities for people to communicate, build relationships and respond constructively to change.
Funded by the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, the 18-month project is delivered in partnership with the Local Development Companies Network (LDCN) and Local Development Companies across Ireland.
The project works primarily with people already living in communities where people seeking international protection have arrived or may arrive. Through community development and engagement, it seeks to understand local concerns, strengthen connections between people, address misinformation and support positive approaches to integration.
At SECAD, the Community Connections Project is built around three interconnected themes:
Communication
We listen to communities and create opportunities for people to better understand who is living in their area and the experiences of different members of the community.
SECAD works to share positive stories of inclusion and uses people-first language that reflects our organisational values of equality, dignity and respect. We also support people seeking international protection to share their own stories and experiences in ways that work for them.
One example is the Our Voice Podcast Project, developed with CRY104FM and Youghal Accommodation Centre, which creates opportunities for people to tell their stories and strengthen understanding within the wider community.
Connection
The project creates opportunities for stronger connections between people who have lived in an area for many years and newer members of the community, including migrants and people seeking international protection.
We work with community organisations, local groups and partners to create opportunities for people to meet, participate and build relationships through community events, workshops and other shared activities. These connections help foster a greater sense of inclusion, participation and belonging.
Community Mobilisation
Community mobilisation is about helping communities build their capacity to respond constructively to change, concerns and challenges.
SECAD works with local people, organisations and partners to strengthen community resilience, address misinformation and encourage positive community-led action. The aim is to support communities where people feel able to speak up for inclusion, respond to concerns with accurate information and work together to make their communities safe and welcoming for everyone.
Creating a Ripple Effect
The Community Connections Project is designed to create impact that extends beyond individual activities. Better communication can lead to stronger connections; stronger connections can encourage greater participation and community action; and this, in turn, can contribute to communities that are more inclusive, resilient and able to respond positively to change.

Through this approach, SECAD seeks to support communities where people feel safe and included, human rights and inclusion are upheld, and people have the agency to create positive change.
