Local Area Employment Service (LAES)

SECAD delivers the Local Area Employment Service (LAES), providing personalised, one-to-one employment support to people who are long-term unemployed. Our team helps individuals identify their next steps and progress towards employment, education, training and skills development.

The Local Area Employment Service (LAES) is funded by the Department of Social Protection and forms part of Ireland’s national public employment service. The programme is delivered locally through a network of partner organisations, with Cork City Partnership acting as the lead partner across Cork city and county and SECAD delivering services throughout East and West Cork.

To access the LAES, individuals must be referred by their local Intreo Office.

Jobseeker Supports

Our team provides a supportive and confidential service based on respect, professionalism and a person-centred approach. We work with each client individually to understand their experience, skills and goals and develop a pathway towards employment or other opportunities.

Our employment supports include:

  • Career guidance and exploration
  • CV and cover letter development
  • Interview preparation
  • Job search support
  • Finding suitable education and training opportunities
  • Exploring self-employment and starting a business
  • Support with transitioning into a new job
  • Access and referrals to relevant programmes, training and community supports

We can also connect clients with opportunities including ETB courses, Tús, Community Employment Schemes and SICAP Employment Supports, as well as practical training such as Safe Pass, Manual Handling and Food Safety (HACCP) and other local supports and services.

Our aim is to help each person identify a realistic and meaningful pathway forward, build their confidence and skills, and take the next step towards sustainable employment.
