On the 29th of March, our “30 Trees for 30 Years” journey arrived at a very special location: Midleton, the town where SECAD’s own story first began. To mark three decades of partnership, we gathered beside the Midleton Community Centre and the Men’s Shed to plant a native Irish rowan tree.
It was a fantastic opportunity to catch up with the local leaders and volunteers from MY Place Midleton, Midleton Men’s Shed, and the East Cork Rivers Trust—the people who truly drive community life here.
Investing in the Future
Over the years, SECAD has been proud to facilitate more than €500,000 in investment for Midleton through LEADER, SICAP, and various other supports. This funding has helped breathe life into vital local assets, including:
- The development and expansion of MY Place as a vibrant youth and community hub.
- The construction of the Midleton Men’s Shed workshop.
- Ongoing community support through the SICAP programme, which provides employment workshops, start-up assistance, and inclusive events like “Celebrating Multiculturalism Through Food.”
While this planting was a way to reflect on our history, our focus remains firmly on the present. Whether you have a new community idea or need support with employment or starting a business, our door is always open at our office in Knockgriffin.
A sincere thank you to everyone who joined us to plant this rowan tree. It stands as a reminder of where we started and our continued commitment to the Midleton community.
