Strong Roots in Youghal

The sun came out in Youghal on the 19th of March for a very special addition to our “30 Trees for 30 Years” initiative. We gathered to plant a native Irish oak, a fitting symbol for a town where SECAD’s roots run deep through decades of shared projects and community growth.

This oak stands as a tribute to the many milestones we’ve reached alongside local partners. Over the years, this has included supporting the early days of Cumann na Daoine and their Community Café, providing local employment services for over 20 years, and collaborating with Community Radio Youghal on vital social inclusion projects. From supporting Tidy Towns’ biodiversity efforts to early feasibility work on landmarks like the Clockgate, the Boardwalk, and the Youghal Enterprise Centre, our partnership has been about building a better future together.

Speaking at the event, Toni McCaul, SECAD Programmes Manager, said:

“SECAD is here to listen, to learn and to support communities in every way we can — through advice, signposting, grant aid, and by providing practical resources for community groups, such as work placements through TÚS and RSS programmes.”

A sincere thank you from SECAD to all the organisations and groups who continue to work together to support and strengthen the Youghal community.

Let this oak grow strong, just like the partnerships SECAD has built with the Youghal community — rooted in trust, growing through collaboration, and standing strong into the future.
